Vancouver Island

Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Another ferry ride took us to Vancouver Island, now we are in Canada eh?

We spent a couple of weeks with boating friends in Campbell River. We had some great times and even got to do a couple of upgrades to the RV, utilizing their workshop and sewing machine. And Julie even managed to work in a gardening fix!

Vancouver Island is stunningly picturesque and unspoiled. Very in tune with it's First Nation heritage and environmentally friendly. After leaving the more populous southern section there are few paved roads and lots of outstanding scenery.

In Alert Bay we discovered the worlds tallest totem pole.

In Beacon Hill Park in Victoria we discovered the worlds tallest totem pole.

Hmmm!

We thought it was pretty funny, both claiming to be the tallest. When we looked them up on the Internet, however, we learned that the one in Alert Bay, while tallest at 173ft, was, in fact, built in 3 sections. The one in Victoria at 127'7” was carved from a single tree. There seems to be some contention as to which should hold the title. Suffice it to say they were both REALLY tall!

A ferry to Pender Island, one of the Canadian Bay Islands, for a quick visit with some new RV friends from last winter. Another beautiful spot and fun company

One last ferry to Vancouver City on the mainland, followed by a short drive, and we were back in the US.
